  Metal Blade Records announces signing of Boston Mass act RAVAGE!
  
  Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the addition of Boston Massachusetts metalers RAVAGE to its roster. The heavy metal band RAVAGE began as the idea of two young brothers from Boston Massachusetts, whom fans would come to know as Al Ravage and Eli Joe, who wished to form a band that could bring bombastic heavy metal back to prominence and crush the insipid alterna-grunge music craze of the mid-90's. Though the barely-highschool aged rockers had mighty ambitions when they played their first gig in 1996, they quickly learned that Rome was not built in a day, and RAVAGE had to work on honing their sound and forging their way through the local underground metal scene. Now in their early 20's RAVAGE is ready to show the metal world what they're made of with their Metal Blade debut The End of Tomorrow, which will drop in the late summer of 2009 and features cover art by none other than Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE).
  
  UNEARTH to shoot video for Grave of Opportunity!
  
  UNEARTH is teaming up with Artificial Army to shoot a video for their song "Grave of Opportunity" from their latest album The March on Thursday March 19th. The video is set for release during their North American tour with Testament and Lazarus A.D. which kicks off in Seattle on May 2nd.
  
  Vocalist Trevor Phipps comments, "This video will be a lot different than any of our other videos. We are looking to mix things up and not just make the same old boring ass videos most everyone else makes. It might rule and it might suck. My money is on ruling."
  
  DISCHARGE
  
  Underground legends DISCHARGE will make their first London appearance of 2009 on March 27 at The Underworld in Camden town. The band will be promoting its latest album, "Disensitise", released last October. This is the first DISCHARGE full-length album to feature Rat (VARUKERS) on vocals.
  
  DISCHARGE was supposed to have played the "last punk gig of the Astoria" on January 31 with CONFLICT, but the venue ended up closing prior to that date. The gig at the Underworld will not have CONFLICT on the bill; instead, Nottingham oi! act CERTIFIED and punk/metal locals MISCONDÜCTERS will be supporting the D-Beat masters.

  Reactivated New Jersey thrash metallers WHIPLASH have uploaded a two-minute video clip (see below) of the making of their long-awaited-anticipated CD, "Unborn Again", due on July 15 via Pulverised Records. The clip was shot at Mozart Studios in the band's hometown of Clifton, New Jersey and features Tony Portaro laying down rhythm guitar tracks for the song entitled "Feeding Frenzy".   SUSPERIA VOCALIST SUFFERS  HEART ATTACK

  OSLO,NORWAY:  Athera ( Pal Mathieson) - Vocalist with Norwegian band SUSPERIA was rushed into Akershus Universitetssykehus Hospital in Lørenskog, Norway on the morning of March 9th suffering from acute stomach pains and heavy bleeding. Initial tests revealed that the singer had suffered a heart attack caused by a damaged blood vessel. Athera is currently in the intensive care unit under close observation, while further tests are carried out. He is expected to remain hospitalised for the foreseeable future. At this moment future plans including touring commitments remain unchanged, until a full diagnosis of his condition has been confirmed

  Athera recently completed vocals on SUSPERIA's 5th studio album, which is due for an early summer release through the bands new label Candlelight Records.

  The band worked continuously throughout 2008 on the album which Athera described as "going back to the early days with the melancholic riffing and dark emotional vocals and coming all the way through to today, with a perfect blend of everything Susperia has been and become".

In continuing their commitment to a worldwide metallic onslaught HEAVY ARTILLERY is proud to announce the signing of Phoenix, AZ based futuristic thrashers, VEKTOR.  Refusing to be pigeon-holed into any metal sub-genre, VEKTOR employs an array of intricacy, virtuosity and a wholly unique sound that sets them clearly apart from the growing legions of color-by-numbers thrash bands. Their debut full length album, Black Future on HEAVY ARTILLERY, is tentatively slated for release in August 2009.

Conceived in 2004 by front man / guitarist David DiSanto and lead shredder Erik Nelson, VEKTOR quickly forged a formidable name for themselves amongst the Phoenix metal contingent for their unique mix of technical, speed thrash and progressive influences. Rancho Santa Margarita, California. ProgRock Records has joined
forces with internationally bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson for
a groundbreaking crossover novel and progressive rock project, TERRA
INCOGNITA. Anderson has created an incredible fantasy universe with
sailing ships, sea monsters, and the crusades. The first novel, THE
EDGE OF THE WORLD, hits stores in June from Orbit Books.

Anderson says, "My work work has always been heavily influenced by

Chris Quirarte (PRYMARY) and Chris Brown (GHOST CIRCUS). Together,
the creative team has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.

TERRA INCOGNITA is a synergistic project unlike anything ever seen in
the publishing and music business -- an original novel and original
CD from the same author. Kevin J. Anderson is currently writing the

The Aussie quintet have been documenting the relocation and recording process for a webisode series on YouTube.  The filming will continue on their first US tour, kicking off tomorrow in Salt Lake City, UT with Dance Gavin Dance and A Skylit Drive.  The trek will bring them to SXSW in Austin for the Photo Finish/Shirts For A Cure, Purevolume, and Artery Foundation showcases.  CLOSURE IN MOSCOW have also been confirmed for high profile festivals Bamboozle in May and the SoCal counterpart, Bamboozle Left in April.  Further tour dates to be announced.

Xykogen is a London based techno-industrial band, established in 2004 by Amon Zero. The full lineup formed at the beginning of 2006, with the release of the Mutate and Survive EP. Xykogen live is Amon Zero (vox, programming), Kaida (synths), Mog Warbeast (vox, drums) the Reverend Eris (vox), and Max Rael (guitars, electronica).

Amon was formerly the vocalist of UK cyberpunk/coldwave band Arkam Asylum. The Reverend Eris was a co-founder of Wasp Factory Recordings and occasional member of The Chaos Engine. Max Rael is a founder-member of industrial punk mavericks History Of Guns, whose highly acclaimed album Acedia is out now.

The word “xykogen” is a term coined by the band’s founder Amon Zero in 2004, meaning any process that influences minds.

 

Xykogen have performed at several key electro/industrial festivals in the UK including the Whitby Gothic Weekend, headlined the Carnival of Souls, and been linked to the emerging UK Futurepunk scene since playing at and headlining genre-defining events Futurepunk 23 and Back to The Futurepunk (London, November 2006 & 2007) and the Amalgamation Festival (Leeds, December 2007).

 

A series of hit-and-run download releases on Wasp Factory Recordings and Line Out Records have paved the way for the band’s commercial debut album Terminology on Line Out Records, produced by Scott DeathBoy. We hope you enjoy their not-quite-right fusion of industrial and dance musicks.

Bio:

In August 1984 guitarist Jan Akesson and singer Peter Grundstrom got to know each other after a mutual concert. Jan played guitar in a band called Ravage and Peter was a singer in a band called Whitelight. Their meeting led to the conclusion of Jans work with Ravage and he became a new member in Whitelight in the fall the same year. The concentration of Whitelight was melodic hardrock and main influence among many where: Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Bad Company, but later on, “newer” bands (english and american) such as Whitesnake, Van Halen, Journey,Toto, Riot, Wrabit and Dokken.The band did many gigs and demos (in hope of getting a proper record deal).

In 1987 Jan decided to leave Whitelight and went his own way. He wanted to try his own wings with a tougher; more guitarorientated hardrock. Peter stayed in Whitelight but Jan wasn’t replaced. Instead the name of the band was changed to Kee Avenue. Jan established a new band called Why Not and later he also established new bands like Perfect Stranger and Dr Blue. These bands did really successful gigs and recordings in different places. In 1994 Jan stepped down from the stages, but kept on writing songs and recorded them in Cubase. Since then he owns a studio.  Kee Avenue split up in 1991 after the bassplayer and the keyboardplayer left the band. The band never found anyone tho replace them. After this breakup Peter played with different band, mostley coverband. He kept on writing songs.

15 years after the two played together Jan called Peter on the phone. He tought that it was time for a “reunion”. After a good meal, a few beers and whiskey the interest grew to once more form a project. The result of this was
StoneLake…

Starofash) has completed work on the soundtrack to the Irish film "Ulterior" by writer/director Jason Mehlhorn. Says Heidi: "With this being my first soundtrack, I was faced with quite a few challenges when adapting to the format. However, after working my way through the more technical aspects, I was pleasantly surprised to find it very natural to just follow the pace and content of the movie when writing the actual music. Jason has been a very open minded and constructive director, which has made my job all the more easy. Strangely, I have never been so honest in my music as with this soundtrack; this is music straight from the heart." "Ulterior" could probably be best described as a psychological thriller in a similar vein to "Vertigo", "Caché", "Repulsion" and "La Femme Infidèle". It utilises a minimalist visual style, measured pace, sparse dialogue and often dark irony to explore themes of disclosure, isolation, empowerment, obsession and sanity within the film's "open" plot. These characteristics were imbued into the film's original soundtrack which was provided by Starofash. "Ulterior" is a low-budget debut feature film from Irish writer/director Jason Mehlhorn. It was shot in just 12 days in Dublin with a skeleton crew of five people in August 2008. It is nearing the end of post-production and upon completion will hopefully start its life by entering film festivals in various countries. It’s that time again folks, time for a new Indie Vision Music compilation. It’s been three months since our last one and I figured now was time for a new one. If you’re an interested band or musician, please read on. I am seeking talented Christian bands (Or artists) who would like free exposure through our series of free compilations. If you are a band or artist and would like to get your music featured on one of our new FREE Digital Compilations this is what you need to do. Keep in mind, this is a DIGITAL compilation and your music will be included in mp3 format as part of a zip file on this website. We will NOT be printing these on cd.

LOITS: video "Haavad uulitsal" achieves 2nd place on MTV EESTI TOP 100

On February 24, on the 91st anniversary of the Estonian Republic, Estonian MTV held the history's first Estonian Top 100 parade with all local music videos that had been included in the cable station's playlist since its launch in fall of 2006 to this year's January.

The pioneers of flak'n'roll celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2009 were pleasantly surprised when viewers of MTV deemed the video to "Haavad uulitsal" worthy of the 2nd place. The video to "Kodu" landed 13th position, "Aeg ärgata" came in 29th.

The black and heavy (180g) 12'' vinyl is packaged in a gatefold sleeve. The singularity of the release is stressed with golden print, picture frames and ornaments, that also adorn the four-page booklet with song lyrics in both Estonian and English, as well as a fair selection of pictures thus far unreleased. In this release we have a truly luxurious and exclusive comrade's version of the album. In addition to the 180g black 12'' vinyl the special set also contains the 150g black 12'' vinyl version of the four-track addendum "Mustad laulud". The gatefold sleeve comes with another surprise, namely a 24-page book in LP-format, adorned again with golden letters, picture frames and ornaments. The first 100 "Raiugem ruunideks" EPs will be released in a very cool b black silver-printed carton that has room enough also for the two previous EPs. As all portions of the trilogy were numbered according to the Eastern Battalions, the carton also includes feature stories of those - in addition to three gorgeous postcards, a national tricolour and a Loits poster. The third edition of "UZI FEST" settled for SATURDAY MARCH 14th will be held at MARMAJA LIVE CLUB (Via Montegrappa 27, Cusano Milanino (MILANO) www.marmajaliveclub.com) rather than "ALL BLACKS" in Bovisio Masciago. We’ve been pushing for gigs in Switzerland and the neighbouring countries in the next few months, so keep checking back as we might be playing somewhere near you ! We’re in talks for a few shows in Germany this July, so hopefully we’ll get to do a few other European gigs while we’re at it.

LION'S SHARE – Sign Japanese deal with KING RECORDS

Swedish melodic heavy metal masters LION'S SHARE have inked a Japanese licensing deal with KING RECORDS for the release of their sixth full-length album, "Dark Hours".

LION'S SHARE will release its new album in Europe and North America on March 24 via Blistering Records. The follow-up to 2007's "Emotional Coma" was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SYMPHONY X, PARADISE LOST, AMON AMARTH) and features guest appearances by SYMPHONY X guitarist Mike Romeo (guest solo on "Behind The Curtain"), and drummers Conny Pettersson (from Earache Records death metal act ANATA) and Richard Evensand (CHIMAIRA, SOILWORK).

Harlow at ROCKLAHOMA: Los Angeles based band HARLOW will be at ROCKLAHOMA for the 2nd time, the band performs Saturday night July 11th.

Harlow released there second CD "Now and Then" on Retrospect Records last October. The Cd contains the new single "Fear on the Radio" featuring back up vocals from Cherie Currie - The Runaways and the 1986 single "Rock the Box".

CANDLELIGHT RECORDS SIGNS ANAAL NATHRAKH

 London: Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of England’s Anaal Nathrakh.  The popular extreme metal duo are currently in the studio working on their label debut titled In The Constellation Of The Black Widow.  The album is expected for a summertime release.  Vocalist V.I.T.R.I.O.L. says, “Candlelight have shown a strong belief in Anaal Nathrakh and looking at some of the acts on their roster both past and present it seems they are capable of backing up their good intentions.  With their help we hope we can finally get the planet cracked in half.”

 Formed in 1998, Anaal Nathrakh have recorded five full-length albums, their most recent Hell is Empty and All the Devils Are Here released in 2007 via Feto Records (co-owned by member Mick Kenney and Napalm Death’s Shane Embury).  Based in Birmingham, the band sonically fuse traditional black metal with elements of industrial, grindcore, and early-day death metal resulting in a one-of-a-kind soundscape that has earned them high acclaim from media and fans around the globe.  Reviewing 2005’s album Eschaton Blabbermouth called the band, “the best at marrying drum machine grind, speed riffing death, and bombastic black metal grandeur to a depraved, filthy and overdriven musical framework.  Malevolence oozes from every note, brooding insanity in every scream, and a mastery of just what makes extreme metal such a dark and difficult pleasure.  Sick, ugly, essential.”

Commenting on the new album, V.I.T.R.I.O.L. reveals, “Constellation will be faster, more insidious, more ominous, more musically dextrous and wilder than ever before.  The album will feature a curve ball guest appearance from Zeitgeist Memento of Mexican extremists Republika.”

According to the band’s official website, Anaal Nathrakh was created for one purpose - to be the soundtrack for Armageddon and the true spirit of necro taken to its musical extremes.  The band have collaborated with such legendary figures as Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Shane Embury and Danny Herrera (Napalm Death), Nick Barker (Testament, Dimmu Borgir), Joe Horvath (Circle of Dead Children), Sethlans Teitan (Watain) and more.  The band have appeared on BBC’s Radio 1 (per the behest of icon John Peel), headlined a stage at the annual Inferno Festival in Norway, and have found themselves included among countless ‘Best Album of the Year’ polls around the world.  Anaal Nathrakh’s status as one of the leading lights in extreme metal is undeniable.

LADY LUCK TATTOO CONVENTION RENO, NV MARCH 13-15

The buzz is turning into a roar, and you don't want to miss out! In just 3 weeks, we will all be heading to Reno, NV to take part in the 8th Annual Lady Luck Tattoo Convention, March 13-15, thrown by Meeting of the Marked and Dixie Rose Tattoo. Reno is infamously known as "The Biggest Little City in the World" and is like a baby Las Vegas, surrounded by some of the best ski resorts in the world! Gearhead Records will be a vendor at this super fun shindig, but more importantly, we are hosting a huge label party Saturday night, March 14. The showcase is co-hosted by Sacramento Tattoo, and will feature 5 bands, Vomit (featuring artists from Sacramento Tattoo), The Mansfields, Crank County Daredevils, Hellbound Glory and The Lords of Altamont! Tickets will be $10 at the door, and all attendees will be getting a free concert poster drawn and designed by Cuzn' Bill Lorenz of Sacramento Tattoo and Ralph Gearhead. All attendees will get a raffle ticket with admission and we'll be raffling off lotsa Gearhead stuff! Do yourself a favor and come take part in the festivities!

FRONT END HTM -CSS DEVELOPER NEEDED

We are in need of an extremely competent html - css front end developer to help out with the Gearhead Records website.  We need someone that knows coding intermixed with an understanding of php databases. Its a very loose role and we would need help varying times throughout the year. HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS SIGNS THE SEVEN GATES: Marching into the new year with guns blazing, HEAVY ARTILLERY is pleased to announce the addition of French death metal masters THE SEVEN GATES to its roster of exclusive artists. Following the release of two critically acclaimed demos, THE SEVEN GATES prepare to unleash their debut album Angel of Suffering in the United States on May 12th and in Europe on June 2nd 2009.

Born from the ashes of revered French underground metal acts Daemonium, Akhenaton and late 80’s French death metal pioneers Mutilated, THE SEVEN GATES began their assault in 2006 with the release of their “All is In All” demo. Martyr (Belgium): February 20th 2009 will be a very special day for all fans of Dutch eighties metal! After 20 years Dutch metal legends Martyr will return to release their double digipack "Fear the universe".

US thrashers Warbringer have completed tracking on their follow up to 2008 debut War Without End. The album was produced by Gary Holt (Exodus), and is scheduled for a May release. The band promise “expect nothing less than some brutal, punishing, faster than hell metal with that classy old-school touch.”

CRAMPS SINGER DIES AGED 62

Lux Interior, lead singer of The Cramps, passed away this morning at 4:30 a.m. PST at Glendale Memorial Hospital, California, aged 62. He dies of an existing heart condition.

Lux and his wife Poison Ivy have contributed greatly to the music world, having inspired many artists since they emerged out of the New York punk scene. Their latest album ‘How To Make A Monster’ sold 11,000 copies in 2004. RIP Lux.

 

SUSPERIA SIGN TO CANDLELIGHT RECORDS

Norwegian melodic thrashers Susperia have signed a deal with Candlelight Records. The band are currently putting the finishing touches on their fifth studio album, which the band describe as being ‘A perfect blend of everything Susperia have been and become. The melancholic riffs and dark emotional vocals will take you back to the early days’.

Watch out for the band who tour the UK in May with Breed 77, Iluminatus and Circle Of One.

 

THE ART OF PARTYING

Municipal Waste begin recording a new album in March, which will once again be produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris at Red Planet Studios.

The album is scheduled for a late August release, and promises to be more aggressive than previous efforts. Comments frontman Tony Foresta “The Waste is still all about having a good time, but I think we all agreed on writing something a bit more pissed off and different with this album, Instead of going ahead and writing the same album all over again. But don't fear we're not getting 'artistic' or any bullshit like that. We've just been listening to a lot more Poison Idea and NWOBHM and I feel it might show a bit with this next album."

Songtitles set to appear on the new CD include "Massive Aggressive", "Shredded Offering" and "The Divine Blasphemer".

 

A LOUD SIGH

Japanese black metallers Sigh are locked away in the studio recording their eighth studio album, “Scenes From Hell”, which is scheduled for release later in 2009.

In a studio blog, mainman Mirai Kawashima talks about what to expect from the new album; "The biggest difference is that we’re using the real orchestral instruments such as a string quartet, trumpet, trombone, tuba, flute, oboe, clarinet and so on. The score is very huge — the one for strings exceeds 100 pages! Definitely the orchestration sounds extremely vivid and powerful this time, and I can safely assure that this will be by far the most grandiose album by SIGH! Also, this is going to be the first original album that features Dr. Mikannibal. She's playing the alto, tenor and batirone saxophones along with taking care of some of the vocals.”

POWER QUEST RECRUIT BLIND GUARDIAN BASSIST

British power metallers Power Quest have found a new bassist in Oliver Holzwarth, who has replaced long-standing bassist Steve Scott who left the band in early January 2009.

A touring member of Blind Guardian since 1997, founding member Steve Williams expresses; "We are absolutely thrilled to have recruited a musician of Oliver's calibre into the band. His combination of musicianship and experience will be a fantastic addition to Power Quest, as we head forward into 2009.”

GUITARIST DETHRONED

Dutch deathsters God Dethroned welcome into the ranks new axe-lady Susan Gerl (Murder Syndicate). The band were impressed by her pro-attitude and dedication to metal, and are confident she is the right replacement for Isaac Delhaye.

The band have recently completed a new album, entitled ‘Passiondale’; a WWI concept album; which is set for an April/May release.

 

ELUVEITIE GO ACOUSTIC

Eluveitie have set April 10th as the release date for their new folk/acoustic album, entitled 'Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion', out on Nuclear Blast records.

Expect plenty of guest appearances from the likes of A.A. Nemtheanga (Primordial) and Oliver S. Tyr (Faun). The album will contain 15 folk songs, mostly written in the ancient Gaulish language.

 

ORANGE GOBLIN ALBUM RECORDING POSTPONED!

Orange Goblin regret that plans to record a new album in May have been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Complications beyond the bands control have disrupted the writing process and the band consider this a decision that is necessary to deliver the best album possible. The band extend their apologies to fans and also have announced that there are no touring plans in the near future. Watch this space for updates on the situation.

 

DEICIDE SIGN TO CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

Veteran death metal outfit Deicide have signed a worldwide record deal with Century Media Records. The band are currently working on a follow up to the 2008 release ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, which is tentatively scheduled for release this summer.

 

NEW MODEL ARMY MANAGER DIES, AGED 46

Tommy Tee, Manager of New Model Army and The Almighty, has died aged 46 after suffering a sudden and completely unexpected medical emergency (a thoracic aortic dissection) on the evening of 23rd December.

Justin Sullivan, New Model Army’s frontman, says "Tommy's death leaves a huge hole in all our lives, not just professionally as the man who organised every aspect of the band's life but most especially as a friend and the best kind of road companion. And this sense of loss increases rather than decreases with each day that passes."

Tommy Tee’s career began in 1982 as New Model Army tour manager, and became known for his old school ethics to working in the music industry. He was responsible for The Almighty securing their record deal with Polydor, and has played a major part in developing NMA’s career over the years.

Pilgrimz: will be performing at the Finnish festival Ruisrock 3-5th July 2009 along with names such as Slipknot, Disturbed, In Flames and many others.

Outspoken newsletter: Our show at the Sound Academy with Gob, The Salads and The Johnstones went amazing.  We had the times of our lives; we have never played in front of 2000 people before. A short promo tour saw The Scratch support The Holloways and appear on BBC 3 Counties Radio’s ‘On Tour’ feature, plus their second regional XFM response session with Colin Frances in Cardiff. The band also made their first appearance at the Endorse IT festival in Dorset in August, in the company of Alabama 3, Buzzcocks and Goldblade. The year finished on a high with a spot at the prestigious In The City music festival in Manchester.

"At that time the band no longer had a rehearsal studio, therefore the whole preparation for the record (and writing of the material) took place at Laimis’ parents’ flat – a cramped space in an apartment block. We would plug the guitars and the bass into a home stereo system in Laimis’ room, and had to resort to rubber practice pads instead of a drum kit. It wasn’t always easy, with desperate neighbours giving an occasional bang on the pipes to let us know what they thought about the friggin’ guitar noise :). We couldn’t use the drum kit, it goes without saying. Brazas would just whack the hell out of his practice pad and lay down the grooves for the tracks in his head. Most of the drum parts in this CD were initially written in that way. Strangely enough, in terms of creativity, the band was able to demonstrate more then than during other, more comfortable and convenient stages of its existence."

CANDLELIGHT SIGNS NORWAY’S SUSPERIA

 

London:  Candlelight today confirms the worldwide signing of Susperia.  Currently finishing work on their fifth album, the band recently announced a string of early spring UK dates that will kick off what is expected to be a busy year for the popular Norwegian metal band.  “Ten years and still the same five guys,” exclaims vocalist Athera of the band’s long commitment to their music.  “We have worked nearly two years on this material, perfecting it for your pleasure and our devoted fans.  It will take you back to the early days with melancholic riffing and dark emotional vocals.  It’s a perfect blend of everything Susperia has been and become.”

 

“A blend of thrash metal drawing on influences that include Sepultura, Anthrax, and Testament,” says Allmusic.com of Susperia’s now highly regarded sound.  The popular music portal continues its early 2005 review noting “their songs are melodic yet intense and forceful, and shredding guitars are the rule.”  Formed in 1998 by drummer Tjodalv (then of Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist Cyrus (then of Satyricon/Old Man’s Child), the band released their debut, Predominance, via Nuclear Blast in 2001.  The band’s much-acclaimed second album, Vindication, followed in 2003.  Signing with Norwegian-based Tabu Records (with release in the US via Candlelight Records) in 2004, the band released their third album, Unlimited, later that year.  Brave Words Bloody Knuckles called the album, “a scorcher from start to finish, on par with Testament classic The Gathering.” 

 

A powerful live act, the band has consistently remained focused to the live arena.  With numerous high profile support, headline and festival appearances, one of the band’s most cherished experiences thus far remains supporting the newly reformed Testament in late 2005.  The dates would culminate in the release of the band’s Norwegian charting mini-album Devil May Care.  Work on their fourth album, Cut From Stone, would see out the end of the year.  Unfortunately due to financial constraints two tries to visit the US to support the Daniel Bergstrand-produced album during 2007/08 would set back the album’s overall sales target but the band remained committed.  Touring Europe, including numerous dates with W.A.S.P, the band’s ambitions stayed and continue to remain in tact.  “We now have the backing of one label worldwide and this is going to make life easier for us,” says bassist Memnock.

 

Susperia’s still untitled label debut is expected for release early summer.  Recorded in Norway it was mixed at Studio Fredman in Sweden.  Susperia currently includes guitarists Cyrus and Elvorn, bassist Memnock, with drummer Tjodalv and vocalist Athera.

Swedish metal powerhouse ENFORCER will be supporting their critically acclaimed album, Into the Night with an upcoming European tour along with fellow Swedish headbangers PORTRAIT.  Summoning the classic metal sounds of IRON MAIDEN and MERCYFUL FATE, ENFORCER delivers melody, hooks and vocal range not heard since the golden days of heavy metal. his old hometown were out of luck--all the dates were in the South. So
Esotouric, the bus adventure company whose offbeat tours expose LA's
secret history, launched a new tour just to scratch that gravelly
voiced itch.

CRAWLING DOWN CAHUENGA: TOM WAITS' LOS ANGELES debuted in August 2008
with a sold out tour, and repeats on February 28. It is the definitive
tour of Tom Waits' formative creative life and the people, places and
late night pastries that shaped it.

Calling all rain dogs, gin-soaked boys and Gun Street girls! Climb
aboard as your hosts David Smay (author of the new 33 1/3 series book
on "Swordfishtrombones") and Esotouric's Kim Cooper (a Zoetrope

Raised near San Diego, Tom Waits launched his musical career in L.A.,
signing with David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972, living at the
raunchy Tropicana Hotel (where he sawed off the kitchen drain board so
his piano would fit), and building a reputation as a songwriter
willing to risk his own health and sanity to get inside the sad sack
characters that peopled songs like "The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not
Me)," "On The Nickel" and "Pasties And A G-string (At The Two O'clock
Club)."

By 1980, Tom was 31 and starting to feel the effects of his hard
living. While scoring the music to Francis Ford Coppola's "One From
The Heart," he met Kathleen Brennan, whose influence would completely
transform his life and his art. After a whirlwind courtship the pair
married and began a 28-year creative and personal partnership,
beginning with the revolutionary album "Swordfishtrombones," the
subject of tour host David Smay's new book.

As a symbolic passage from lonesome bar hopping to family joys and
sobriety, the tour starts and ends at two important downtown sites.
Passengers gather in the King Edward Saloon, the last surviving Skid
Row bar with the Christmas 2007 loss of Craby Joe's, before boarding
Esotouric's luxury coach class bus, where the mood is set with vintage
photos and live footage. CRAWLING DOWN CAHUENGA spans Tom's personal
city, from The Nickel (aka Skid Row) to once-ratty West Hollywood,
favorite strip clubs and midnight diners, recording studios, night
clubs, record labels and film studios, before rolling back downtown
for a communal snack at Clifton's Cafeteria.

ABOUT THE HOSTS: Longtime collaborators David Smay and Kim Cooper
co-edited the books "Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth" ("quite
simply the most fun music book I have ever read." -Bucketfull of

legislation is about to be introduced that is likely to virtually destroy
live music in the UK.The government wish to consider it a legal
requirement in the new tax year to introduce laws insisting anyone
applying or re-applying for an entertainment licence musthave a noise
control device fitted to the venue.This will be the final nail in the
coffin for pretty much ALL entertainment in the UK as the level at which
these devices cut the power off is ridiculously low. In our experience
any venue that has one in use cannot have any electric music as the
power isconstantly being cut mid-song - and even loud applause at the
end of a song can cut it. Venues are suffering enough as it is without
being forced to go to the expense of fittingone of these damned things.
Noise limiters are a menace to live music, and we expect thisis the
bright idea of some unelected suit in Brussels that's never been to a
gig in theirlife.Bloody politicians - why can't they all just **** off

After two European tours supporting Killing Joke, TRIBAZIK release their debut album All Blood Is Red. Mixed by Andy Gill (Gang Of Four) and featuring the voice of Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke) on ‘Molten’ , this body of work is an energetic journey through government conspiracies and life beyond the physical realm.

All Blood is Red was produced and recorded by TRIBAZIK at Skyride Studios, North London and mixed by Andy Gill (Gang of Four, The Futureheads & Therapy) in his central London studio – the Beauchamp Building.

The TRIBAZIK trio was born in 2004. Inspired by an eclectic taste in music, their aim is to create a chunky, energetic sound with REAL organic drums and bass, electro/acid noises and solid minimal guitar and to blast it out LIVE!

All samples are played LIVE (triggered from pads around the drum kit) and include vocal chants, acid lines, industrial thuds, caustic pulses and sirens. These, accompanied by freestyle bass, heavy groove/melodic guitar and manic drums, create the high-energy idiosyncratic TRIBAZIK sound.

TRIBAZIK have supported Killing Joke on two European tours and headlined various gigs in the U.K. They intend to play every corner of the earth and are all set for blast-off. They have built up a dedicated fan base and an experienced crew consisting of stage, lighting, visuals and their very own sound guy who has worked with Placebo, The Prodigy and more recently, Jay-Z. Tribazik’s live show is a unifying sensual experience. Enigmatic images are projected behind the band in sync with the music, drawing on the potent lyrics.

Having heard the instrumental version of Molten, Jaz Coleman (legendary singer from Killing Joke) was keen to add his take on the TRIBAZIK sound. In April last year, he came over to Tribazik’s studio in North London to lay down the vocals. The Molten music video (available on an EPK on request) is an apocalyptic mix of live action and animation.

DESOLATE WAYS - New album will feature A Sorrowful Dream's female vocalist

 

- DESOLATE WAYS is still working in the production of their third album, which is being recorded in Nitro Sound Solutions studio and being produced by Roger Fingle (aka "Earth"), vocalist and multi-instrumentist  of Blood Tears and Seduced by Suicide.

 

This new release will feature Josie, the female vocalist of the dark metal band A Sorrowful Dream, who will sing in the track "Winter".

 

About the invitation to take part on this album Josie comments: "I loved receiving the invitation to be part of Desolate Ways' new album. It's a great honour. Both bands, A Sorrowful Dream and Desolate Ways, are long time friends and already played together several times in Brazil and we always admired their music. Having the opportunity to contribute for their forthcoming album makes me feel very flattered and anxious for the result. Even both bands playing similar genres, there is a huge difference between our music, which makes everything more interesting. Opeth/Ihsahn Norwegian Tour Changes

A previous announcement confirmed that Ihsahn would support Opeth for the majority of shows on their forthcoming Norwegian Tour in March.  However, more detailed production planning has revealed technical and practical difficulties at many of the smaller venues, and it has proven near impossible to run the necessary production. This means that Ihsahn will only be performing at Rockefeller/Oslo on March 10th.

Ihsahn comments: “The situation is unfortunate as I have really been looking forward to this tour and put a lot of effort in preparations. Still, the practical difficulties at many of the venues would only compromise the conditions for both bands and audience so one needs to be realistic.  The Oslo gig is still on though, and fans will no doubt get their monies worth at the remaining Opeth shows”

ELUVEITIE GO ACOUSTIC

Eluveitie have set April 10th as the release date for their new folk/acoustic album, entitled 'Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion', out on Nuclear Blast records.

Expect plenty of guest appearances from the likes of A.A. Nemtheanga (Primordial) and Oliver S. Tyr (Faun). The album will contain 15 folk songs, mostly written in the ancient Gaulish language.

ORANGE GOBLIN ALBUM RECORDING POSTPONED!

Orange Goblin regret that plans to record a new album in May have been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Complications beyond the bands control have disrupted the writing process and the band consider this a decision that is necessary to deliver the best album possible. The band extend their apologies to fans and also have announced that there are no touring plans in the near future. Watch this space for updates on the situation.

DEICIDE SIGN TO CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

Veteran death metal outfit Deicide have signed a worldwide record deal with Century Media Records. The band are currently working on a follow up to the 2008 release ‘Till Death Do Us Part’, which is tentatively scheduled for release this summer.

NEW MODEL ARMY MANAGER DIES, AGED 46

Tommy Tee, Manager of New Model Army and The Almighty, has died aged 46 after suffering a sudden and completely unexpected medical emergency (a thoracic aortic dissection) on the evening of 23rd December.

Justin Sullivan, New Model Army’s frontman, says "Tommy's death leaves a huge hole in all our lives, not just professionally as the man who organised every aspect of the band's life but most especially as a friend and the best kind of road companion. And this sense of loss increases rather than decreases with each day that passes."

Tommy Tee’s career began in 1982 as New Model Army tour manager, and became known for his old school ethics to working in the music industry. He was responsible for The Almighty securing their record deal with Polydor, and has played a major part in developing NMA’s career over the years.

Candlelight Records: today confirms the extension of their cooperation with Chicago-based Battle Kommand Records.  Founded by Nachtmystium vocalist/guitarist Blake Judd in 2004, Candlelight will now look after the noted underground label’s catalog around the globe; previously the deal was in place for only England and the European continent.  Nachtmystium’s highly regarded catalog will be the first to find reissue under the new deal.  In stores April 21, each of the band’s early recordings, namely Reign of the Malicious, Nachtmystium, The First Attacks, Demise and the highly acclaimed Instinct: Decay, will again be available for the band’s growing stateside fanbase.  Reissues from Krieg, Obscurus Advocam and Glorior Belli among others will follow shortly thereafter.  Bonus material is planned on many of the reissues with specifics to be confirmed at a later date.

 

Judd says of the cooperation, “it is with much honor that we can announce this collaboration.  Music fans worldwide will now have much easier access to older BKR releases.”  In addition to the reissue series, the cooperation will see new signings that Judd notes, “will maintain the unique brand identity of Battle Kommand Records.”  Judd will retain control of the label’s A&R while Candlelight’s worldwide team will handle marketing and distribution.  "With Candlelight's funding behind BKR's new signees,” says Judd, “I anticipate that more of our artists will be touring here and abroad.  A  more major push for all of our artists marks a major step for the label, and we intend to push-forward with full force."

Since its launch in 2004, Battle Kommand Records has released nearly 30 albums.  The roster’s artists span black, doom, death, experimental noise and ambient rock.  The label has seen cooperation in the US previously with Los Angeles-based Southern Lord Records as well direct relationships with numerous indie and underground distributors.  Candlelight Records with offices in London and Philadelphia has a worldwide catalog containing over 400 titles including recordings from Emperor, Opeth, 1349, Blut Aus Nord, Crowbar, Abigail Williams, Obituary and many more.  Candlelight is distributed in the United States via Caroline Distribution, EMI Music is the label’s new distributor for Canada with England and European distribution handled by Plastic Head Music.

• (01.09) Devildriver has re-signed with Roadrunner Records. The band has started work on a new album. Their last album, "The Last Kind Words", sold 70,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That CD shifted a little more than 14,000 copies during its first week of release to debut at No. 48 on The Billboard 200 chart. This figure represented around a 40 percent increase over the opening-week number of 2005's "The Fury of Our Maker's Hand", which premiered at No. 177 with sales of 10,400.
• (01.09) Testament will play their classic first two albums — "The Legacy" and "The New World Order" — for one night only at Islington Academy in London, England on March 25.
• (01.09) Anomalous is hard at work writing for their upcoming full length with 7 songs 100% complete and another in the works (as well as an instrumental for a total of 9 tracks). The as-yet-untitled album will be recorded by Tim Hale and Nate Vennarucci at Vennarucci's own Mount D studio this month.
• (01.07) The family of Covan (vocalist for Decapitated) who was badly injured last year in a bus crash which also took the life of Decapitated drummer Vitek, is asking for your donations to help Covan on his road to recovery. Go here for more information.
  
• (01.06) Behemoth are in the final stages of the songwriting process for their upcoming, as-yet-untitled album. The record is tentatively expected sometime in the fall via Metal Blade (USA) and Nuclear Blast (Europe). They will enter the studio in the middle of February.
• (01.04) Brutus are about halfway finished recording their new album, "Murwgebeukt - Total Loss".
• (01.04) Magna Carta will be releasing a compilation CD called "Guitars That Ate My Brain". It's a set of all instrumental songs from some of the world's best metal guitar players, including work from Devin Townsend, Paul Waggoner (Between The Buried And Me), Eyal Levi and Emil Werstler (Daath), Shane Gibson (Korn), James Murphy (ex-Testament), etc. Go here for more information.
